yoga study program
2010 - 2011 Yoga Study Program
200+ hours
Led by Keri Mangis, E-RYT, Trinity Yoga
Beginning Oct 2, 2010
Currently enrolling! - please call for more information if interested.
This 200+ hour teacher training program is designed for students of yoga and teachers who would like to add to their knowledge and study of Yoga, under the guidance of a qualified teacher and with the support of others on the same journey.
This program, in order to be recognized by the Yoga Alliance (pending), must be composed of at least 180 Contact Hours (time with an E-RYT) and 20 Non-Contact Hours (of which you will be doing more!). It must also include 5 sections: Asana, Philosophy, Anatomy, Business and Ethics, and Practicum. Although these sections can be broken down individually, they will also very naturally intermingle, as philosophy underlies the asana which relies on knowledge of anatomy, etc. I will be teaching each of the 5 sections according to the Yoga Philosophy’s teaching of the Koshas, which are:
THE FIVE KOSHAS (sheaths or layers)
Anamayakosha – the physical sheath: our bones, muscles, connective tissues, fluids, organs, etc.
Pranamayakosha – our energy body, breath, chakras, etc.
Manomayakosha – our mind, ego, thoughts, ideas, beliefs, etc.
Vijnanamayakosha – our higher mind or intellect (Buddhi), intuition
Anandamayakosha – Bliss, peace, True Self
PROGRAM BREAKDOWN
ASANA
Learn the fundamental postures from the ground up and the inside out. Understand how they operate on each of the five koshas. Learn how to build them from the ground up, teach them, and use verbal cues, light touch adjustments and modeling to help yourself and your students find the joy innate in these ancient postures. Under this section, you will also study Sanskrit, the language of yoga, and chanting
PHILOSOPHY
Study the history, lineage, and underlying truths that the practice of Yoga rests upon. You will read great texts such as the Bhagavad Gita, and Autobiography of a Yogi which are important texts and although sometimes intimidating at first, are enjoyable, insightful and rich
ANATOMY
Learn the anatomy of the body in an organic real way…through the asanas themselves. What does it mean to live in your organ body? Your fluid body? See what happens to your yoga practice as you study your own body from this perspective. Anatomy has never been so fun!
LIFESTYLE AND ETHICS & BUSINESS
What does it mean to live the yogic lifestyle? How does one grow from doing yoga to being a yogi/yogini? You will learn how to change habits and add little rituals to your day to bring more meaning and joy to each moment. We will examine our current habits and see where there is possibility for change and growth. This section will also include the business of yoga – how to start up your own business, if desired, what it means to be a yoga teacher in our age, how to protect yourself with insurance, and finally how to register with the Yoga Alliance
PRACTICUM
Practice, practice, practice! You will be practicing teaching to your teacher and your peers, receiving feedback from both. There is no better way to learn than to teach! The setting will be supportive, and the feedback will be given in a positive way to help you find your deepest, most authentic yoga voice.
And More…
This a rich, organic, beautiful process that will change your life! I work to create an atmosphere of acceptance and willingness: acceptance of one another’s beliefs, ideas, paths and journeys, and willingness to examine these in a non-judgmental, light-hearted way.
LOCATION
Meeting at each other's homes provides the most economical solution, as well as provides the intimacy desired. It is your choice if you are able to open up your home in a rotation.
TO BRING
Please bring with you each time a yoga mat, note taking material (you will receive a binder), water and snacks, if desired.
MEETING DATES/TIMES
I would expect that it will take us a year to complete the 180 contact hours, however, we can move at a pace that works for everyone.
PRICE
The price of the program is $2,000. This includes the 180 contact hours, a binder, and a wealth of handouts and information. This also includes phone and email support from Keri as needed. This price DOES NOT include the cost of books or space rental fee, if needed. Fee is due on first class day.
PROGRAM POLICY
Pre-registration and pre-payment is required. A deposit of $500 reserves your space. Full payment is due by the first start date.
CANCELLATION/REFUND POLICY
Cancellations 30 days prior to the start date receive 100% refund of deposit. For cancellations less than 30 days before the start date, no refund of deposit will be given. If you leave the Yoga Study program early for any reason, no credit or refund is available.
COMPLETION
Upon completion of the 200 hours, you will receive a Certificate of Completion from Trinity Yoga. You may then send that certificate in (along with a small fee) to the Yoga Alliance to receive your RYT200!
